I hear Selmwood Carp & Coarse fishery in Livingston is opening in March 2015. I believe stocking has been taking place with Carp to double figures, and a lot of work taking place on the bank looking at there Web site. I have heard Membership will be limited, and nearly 200 applications have been received to date . Anyone got any opinions on this place.

I am still confused with this one.

"Scotland’s leading, members-only Carp and coarse venue for Fly & Bait fishing"

Seems a really odd statement.

I would have though that not opening for day tickets would be a commercial error as well. I also read on the website that they are only offering 30 memberships! 30 anglers to keep the place going?

"Members will be chosen based on their experience, willingness to learn and their competence on fish safety." So I wonder how that will be judged on an application form??

It's a strange one all round. I would have said the SCG was Scotland's leading members only club :)

I agree with the confusion, I hear that the 30 is now 50 Members and that it will be quite an expensive Membership Fee £250-£300 annually TBC. Quite right on the experience / competence side as application only states max of 10+ years, according to the Web site Day tickets will be by weekly Membership Cards, Dawn to Dusk fishing if you are selected that is.

Already a few established members only carp fisheries around with a better stamp of fish,I for one wont be going near the place and for 2-300 a year I can think of a few other waters I would rather join.

the 10 years experience mentioned, does that mean minimum 10 years carp fishing. or would any type of fishing be considered. as someone who has fished for almost 40 years i consider myself to be proficient at handling all types of fish. but i have only concentrated on carp for the last 3 years. would i be considered for membership if i wanted to join. not that i am considering it anyway.

I can think of a few anglers that have considerably more experience than 10 years who I would not let near a fish of mine!

£350 a year, 60 full members that can fish 24hours and 100 day ticket members on a 2 acre water with 10 swims would be like black Friday every time there is decent weather   not my cup of tea. but each to there own

£350 puts it in the same price bracket as some very nice and well stocked waters down south.

I know its all about supply and demand, but that is taking the p!ss.

I am currently paying £200 a year for access to 35 miles of Salmon, Sea trout and trout fishing on 3 of the top rivers in the North East plus two stocked lochs, one with a boat.
