I was wondering how you guys rate lures for pike fishing compared to dead bait/flys?
Whats your favourite lure?
I bought 3 rattle lures to try out today, how do you rate the rattle lures ? (rattle lure has a built in chamber that make noise in the water to attract attention, incase some of you were wondering)
I've never used a lure before, I've allways used dead bait.

In my experience lures outfish deadbaits by about 5 to 1, sometimes more. The amount of times I have had a couple of deadbait rods out all day without a snoff and then had several pipe on a lure when I have got bored is amazing.
I virtually gave up deadbaiting for pike a good few years ago. Noe I just take a rod, a bag of lures and thats it. I cover miles of water and catch far more fish than I did sitting behind rods (although deadbaiting has its place).
Finally, don't think lures are for small fish. The current world Pike record was on a lure as are the next 5 or 6 on the list. My biggest on the lure is 28 pounds (Salmo Slider Jerkbait) and I have had them on the fly to 26 pounds.
As for lures with rattles in, yes they work. The Big S is a famous lure ant thats a rattler.

spoons, and big ones, like the masterline toothy critter Mr Muskie, Belter, if you can get one or 2 2nd hand as they aint made any more. Also Kuusamo spoons like the professor. Let them flutter down, jerk, then flutter....
Or even better on many occasions, wobble your deadbait. Gulp!

I've always found soft bodied lures to be equally enticing for pike and as luck would have it ,I have some for sale.
